AGENDA TITLE: Adopt Resolution Awarding Contract for Traffic Signal Preventive
Maintenance and Repair Program 2005 to Republic Electric of Novato
($9,570)
MEETING DATE: September 7, 2005
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMAENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt a resolution awarding the contract for
the above project to Republic Electric, of Novato, in the amount of
$9,568.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This project includes providing preventive maintenance and repair
services for the City's forty-six traffic signal and lighting systems (forty-five
existing systems and one proposed system at Lower Sacramento Road
and Century Boulevard). The specifications require the contractor to
provide signal maintenance inspections at 120 -day intervals and annually test the traffic monitors. Past
contracts included 60 -day inspections. After re-evaluating the preventive maintenance services, we
lengthened the inspection intervals from 60 -day to 120 -day inspections.
Specifications for this project were approved on July 20, 2005. On August 10, 2005, the City received
the following two bids for this project. Last time we advertised for this work, only Republic Electric bid on
the project. Since then, another company has relocated to this area, creating more competition for this
type of work. The contractor with the lowest bid has previously provided signal maintenance for the City,
and we feel confident with their workmanship.
