BACKGROU14D INFORMATION: On January 19, 2005, the City Council approved specifications and authorized advertisement for bids for wood utility poles as needed during calendar year 2005. On August 10, 2005, staff received and opened the following bids for 20 Class 3 wood utility poles in 35 - and 50 -foot lengths: North Pacific Lumber, Portland, OR $ 9,083.33 Nevada Wood Preserving, Silver Springs, NV $ 9,158.75 J H Baxter Company, San Mateo, CA $ 9,406.58 McFarland -Cascade, Tacoma, WA $ 9,654.40 Adobe Lumber, American Canyon, CA $ 9,697.50 Bell Lumber & Pole, Conway, WA $12,919.23 Wood utility poles are needed on an ongoing basis for replacement of damaged or deteriorated poles and for routine line maintenance and upgrades. FISCAL IMPACT. Initial cost: $9,083.33. With 5,768 wood poles currently in Lodi's electric distribution system, ongoing replacement of aging poles is critical to maintaining service reliability and to avoiding costly emergency line repairs. H. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Lodi City Council that the award of the bid for the purchase of 20 Class 3 wood utility poles in 35- and 50 -foot lengths be made to the low bidder, North Pacific Lumber, of Portland, Oregon, in the amount of $9,083.33.
