HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - September 7, 2005 E-06AGENDA ITEM &6 &4f& CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION TM AGENDA TITLE: Adopt Resolution Approving Specifications, Authorizing Advertisement for Bids for Lane Line Striping for Various City Streets 2005, and Authorizing City Manager to Award or Reject the Contract up to $35,000 MEETING DATE: September 7, 2005 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt a resolution approving specifications, authorizing advertisement for bids for Lane Line Striping for Various City Streets 2005, and authorizing the City Manager to award or reject the contract up to $35,000. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This project provides for installation of traffic stripes (lane lines) on approximately 38 percent of all striped City streets. The lane line paint application was skipped in 2004 as a one-time cost savings. Should the actual bid be more than the amount budgeted, lane lines to be repainted will be decreased to match the funds available. Since weather is a factor in the application of lane lines, it is important to expedite the award process, thus, the reason for requesting award by the City Manager. A recap of the types of lane line and quantities for this contract is shown below: LANE LINES MILES Broken White 6.82 Broken Yellow 4.61 Double Yellow 7.20 Eight -Inch Solid White 1.31 Four -Inch Solid White 4.91 Continuous Left 6.36 Six -Inch Solid White 6.00 Six -Inch Skip 1.21 Total Miles 3$.42 The specifications are on file in the Public Works Department. FISCAL IMPACT: This budgeted expense will assist the Street Division in its continuing effort to maintain the City of Lodi's lane lines for visibility and safety. Prima, Jr. Public Works Director Prepared by Curt Juran, Assistant Street Superintendent RCPICJIpmf APPROVED: Blai ng, City Manager J:ICOUNC I L1051LaneLine2005.doc 8124/2005 RESOLUTION NO. 2005-173 A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL APPROVING SPECIFICATIONS, AUTHORIZING ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS FOR LANE LINE STRIPING FOR VARIOUS CITY STREETS 2005, AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO AWARD THE CONTRACT OR REJECT THE BIDS UP TO $35,000 WHEREAS, this project provides for the installation of traffic stripes (lane lines) on approximately 38 percent of all striped City streets; and WHEREAS, staff recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to award or reject the contract up to $35,000 for the Lane Line Striping for Various City Streets 2005, in order to expedite project completion prior to the upcoming rainy season. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lodi City Council does hereby approve the specifications and authorizes advertisement for bids for Lane Line Striping for Various City Streets 2005; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Lodi City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to award the contract or reject the bids in an amount not. to exceed $35,000.
