BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Greyhound Bus Lines, Inc. has operated within the City of Lodi for several years utilizing a contracted station agent. On June 17, 2005, Greyhound terminated the contract with their agent. Greyhound and the City discussed having the City Transit Division operate the Greyhound service. Staff requests that the City Council authorize the City Manager to negotiate and enter into a contract with Greyhound for the City to perform ticketing services in exchange for 15% commission and such other terms as are favorable to the City. Staff met with representatives from Greyhound to determine what the service operation would require. Following that meeting, staff met with representatives from MV Public Transportation, Inc. (MV) to inquire as to their willingness to subcontract the service and provide the day-to-day oversight of the sales. MV has agreed to perform this service as an addendum to their contract. The City's current contract with MV expires in July 2006, although we have an option to extend the contract an additional two years, which will be considered in the future. In addition, MV will utilize the former Greyhound building for training and office space and will pay for utilities for the building which was formerly a City expense. Staff requests that the City Council authorize the City Manager to negotiate and execute an amendment to the MV contract to provide that MV will perform the ticketing function of the Greyhound operations in exchange for 50% of the commission the City receives from Greyhound (MV's portion would amount to 7.5% of ticket sales), use of the North Annex, and such other terms as the City Manager finds favorable to the City. The MV subcontract would have the same term as their Transit Operations contract. FISCAL IMPACT: This will allow the City of Lodi's Transit Division to receive additional revenue with no additional cost incurred. FUNDING AVAILABLE: None required. f*r Richard T1 Prima, Jr. Public Works Director Prepared by Tiffani M.
