BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On September 15, 2004, the City Council approved specifications and authorized advertisement for bids for this conductor. The following five bids were received, and opened on October 13, 2004: The Okonite Company, San Ramon, CA $57,064.40 Pirelli Power Cables, Lexington, SC $63,074.26 Western States Electric, Portland, OR (BICC Cables) $68,787.60' Western States Electric, Portland, OR (Kerne Cables) $85,165.60' Stephens McCarthy Lancaster, Novato, CA (Kerite) $84,244.12' Notes: 1. Western States' and Stephens McCarthy's bids are subject to change based on metals prices at the time of shipment. Okonite's and Pirelli's prices are firm through delivery. This cable will be needed for installation in new subdivisions early next year. Krueger, inane Director Alan N Vallow, rElectnic U ity Arector Prepared by Joel Harris, Purchasing Officer cc: Manager, EUD Engineering and Operations APPROVED: Janet eeter, nterim City Manager RESOLUTION NO, 2004-229 A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL AWARDING THE BID FOR THE PURCHASE OF #110 MEDIUM -VOLTAGE EPR -INSULATED UNDERGROUND CONDUCTOR WHEREAS, in answer to notice duly published in accordance with law and the order of this City Council, sealed bids were received and publicly opened on October 13, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. for 40,000 feet of #110 medium -voltage concentric -neutral EPR -insulated underground electrical cable, described in the specifications therefore approved by the City Council on September 15, 2004; and WHEREAS, said bids have been compared, checked, and tabulated and a report thereof filed with the City Manager as shown below: The Okonite Company, San Ramon, CA $57,064.40 Pirelli Power Cables, Lexington, SC $63,074.26 Western States Electric, Portland, OR (BICC Cables) $68,787.60' Western States Electric, Portland, OR (Kerite Cables) $85,165.60' Stephens McCarthy Lancaster, Novato, CA (Kerite) $84,244.12' Notes: 1. WHEREAS, previously, the Electric Utility Department solicited bids on several sizes of underground electric cable with a new type of insulation, ethylene -propylene rubber (EPR). Industry tests had shown that EPR insulation yielded longer cable life and resulted in fewer cable failures, while department evaluations showed EPR cable could be installed more efficiently than conductor with cross-linked insulation. Additionally, conversion to EPR cable allowed the Department to replace two sizes (#2 and 4210) in cross-linked conductor with one size (#110) in EPR; and WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends awarding the bid for the purchase of 40,000 feet total of #110 medium -voltage concentric -neutral EPR -insulated underground electrical cable to the low bidder, The Okonite Company, of San Ramon, California, in the amount of $57,064.40. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lodi City Council does hereby award the bid for the purchase of 40,000 feet #110 medium -voltage concentric -neutral EPR -insulated underground electrical cable to the low bidder, The Okonite Company, of San Ramon, California, in the amount of $57,064.40.
