AGENDA TITLE: Adopt Resolution Approving Specifications, Authorizing Advertisement for
Bids for Maintenance of Landscape Areas for 2006, and Authorizing
City Manager to Award or Reject the Contracts up to $150,000
MEETING DATE: November 3, 2004
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt a resolution approving the
specifications, authorizing advertisement for bids for Maintenance
of Landscape Areas for 2005, and authorizing the City Manager to
award or reject the contracts.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This project provides for the contract maintenance of 142
landscaped sites within the City and at the White Slough Water
Pollution Control Facility, under three separate contracts —
Group A — Maintenance of Lower Sacramento Road and Adjacent
Non -Turf Landscape Areas 2005; Group B — Maintenance of Cherokee Lane and Adjacent Non -Turf
Landscape Areas, 2005; and Group C — Maintenance of Turf and Miscellaneous Landscape Areas 2005.
Contracts consist of one each for Group A (66 sites), Group B (33 sites), and Group C sites (43 sites).
The Street Division of the Public Works Department has implemented contracting landscape
maintenance since 1979. The current contract expires December 31, 2004. In an effort to reduce
maintenance costs, the contract has multiple bidding options with reduced frequencies for the non -turf
areas in an effort to get the best price. The bid will allow selection of reduced service levels to decrease
the total cost while attempting to maintain an acceptable level of service. The bid has been broken down
into smaller areas to provide for more competition and to allow smaller contractors to bid.
