AGENDA TITLE: Communication from the Secretary of State's Office Regarding Lodi's Incorporation
Date
MEETING DATE: October 20, 2004
PREPARED ]BY:
City Clerk
RECON9WENIDED ACTION: None required — information only.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: During the course of researching a public information request
recently, it was discovered that inconsistent incorporation dates
have been used for the City of Lodi. The facts are as follows:
• November 27, 1906 —Date of election to incorporate and elect officers.
December 3, 1906 — Date of the "Order of the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Joaquin
made in the matter of the incorporation of the City of Lodi".
December 6, 1906 —Date the County's order was filed in the California Secretary of State's Office.
Attached as Exhibit A is communication from an archivist at the Secretary of State's Office who confirmed
that the correct incorporation date is the date incorporation papers were filed in the Secretary of State's
Office. Also included with the exhibit is a microfilm copy of the County's order of Lodi's incorporation and
the Secretary of State's receipt indicating that it was filed on the 6th day of December 1906.
Lodi's Official City Seal (example below) states "Incorporated Nov 1906", which will be corrected as soon
as possible.
