AGENDA TITLE: National Arts S Humanities Month

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That Mayor Hansen proclaim the month of October, 2004, as "Arts
and Humanities Month in Lodi"
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The month of October has been recognized as National Arts and
Humanities Month by thousands of arts and cultural organizations,
communities, and states across the nation as well as by the White
House and Congress for several years.
The Arts Commission respectfully requests that the Mayor and City Council recognize the importance of
the arts in our community by once again proclaiming October as Arts & Humanities month in Lodi.
The Division of Arts & Culture will be hosting its second annual Open House at 7:30 p.m. in Crete Hall on
October 14, 2004 at Hutchins Street Square. More than 30 local arts organizations and Arts Instructors
are expected to take part in the event, showcasing their talents, demonstrating portions of their classes
and providing information to the public. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
