Adams, Chief of Police RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council authorize the Lodi Police Department to purchase technical equipment that will enhance hardware and software being used by law enforcement personnel at the Lodi Police Department. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On June 30, 2004, the Lodi Police Department applied for, and received, a grant from the Federal Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program in the amount of $33,813. The grant requires a matching fund of $3,757. The matching fund will be taken from the Lodi Police Department's 2004-2005 State Citizens Option for Public Safety grant. When the funds are received from the Federal Government, they will be placed in a special revenue fund pending dispersal. On July 27, 2004, an Advisory Board convened and reviewed the proposal for the disbursement of funds. The proposal indicated that the funds would be used for computer hardware and software acquisitions, and technology updates, on equipment that is currently in use by the Lodi Police Department. The Advisory Board consisted of the following individuals: Dr. Richard Ferrera, Superintendent, Lodi Unified School District Honorable David Warner, Judge, San Joaquin County Superior Court Mr. Tom Ziegler, Deputy District Attorney, San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office Mr. Richard Jones, President, Lodi Boys and Girls Club Chief Jerry Adams, Lodi Police Department Captain Lary Manetti, Lodi Police Department Betsy Peterson, Management Analyst, Lodi Police Department The Advisory Board Agreed with the proposal and made no additional recommendations. Adams Chief of Police APPROVED: `f Janet S. eeter, Interim City Manager RESOLUTION NO. 2004-180 A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL APPROVING THE TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT PURCHASE PROPOSAL FOR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM WHEREAS, the Lodi City Council authorized the Lodi Police Department to accept. Federal Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program Funds in the amount of $33,813 and provide matching funds in the amount of $3,757 to be taken from the 2004-05 State Citizens Option for Public Safety Grant; and WHEREAS, the proposal for the disbursement of the funds includes computer hardware and software acquisitions and technology updates on equipment currently used by the Lodi Police Department; and WHEREAS, on July 27, 2004, an Advisory Board convened and reviewed the proposal for the disbursement of these funds and has agreed with the proposal as presented and made no other recommendations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lodi City Council does hereby authorize the Lodi Police Department to utilize the grant funds for computer hardware and software acquisitions and technology updates on equipment currently used by the Lodi Police Department in the amount of $33,813, and in addition to the grant, provide matching funds in the amount of $3,757 from the 2004-05 State Citizens Option for Public Safety Grant for a total amount of $37,570.
