Celebrations, sponsored by the Community Partnership for Families
MEETING DATE: September 1, 2004
PREPARED BY: Management Analyst, City Manager's Office
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Presentation
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Community Partnership for Families is planning the
third annual "Pakistan Independence Day" for Saturday,
September 4, 2003, noon to 6 p.m. at Heritage School. The
celebration is open to the general public. Its purpose is to
celebrate diversity in our community and share the culture and values of the Pakistani community
with the general population.
In 2002, the first Pakistan Independence Day began as a small neighborhood gathering to
encourage youth leadership and to build bridges between Muslim and other communities living in
Lodi. Many agencies, businesses, and private parties joined together in order to accomplish this
mission by offering fun, food, music, cultural education, and information regarding social
services.
The Partnership went on to establish a Mexican Independence Day celebration as well. This
year, the event will again be held September 16th 3 pm to 7 pm at Lawrence School. The event
is designed to educate and encourage community pride in a family oriented, non-alcoholic
setting.
